doors open with our dogs and our cats…A lot of exciting things ahead a lot of things that we

have, um, learned and grown through medics…he's got If you guys don't know medics' story he

had to have his tail amputated, and he's got a little bit of nerve damage So… he gets these

kind of what they think are shooting pains from like phantom…amputations where where they

think that it's still there but it's not So he'll circle around sometimes

… Sidetracked So if you see him circling behind me uh that's what it is.

He's on gabapentin I got lost um focused Here we go We haven't done this in a while.

It's kind of just me catching everybody up on what's going on

where we see things going over the next course of the month.

Um but for this one we'll probably talk a little bit strategically as to what our goals are for the year.

And really, we are a very very big believer in transparency so if any anything comes up on your

mind on your heart you want me or one of our board members or team members to chat about excuse

So you can see who we are what we do how we do it, and what we believe in good times and bad

times And in all honesty it's not always good There are very very hard times that we have been

through what we've been through them together And I truly do believe we come out stronger

because of that Uh we started twenty twenty four…off of the heels of our loss with our

conditional use permit to where we had purchased the forty acres in Miami County.

And we saw the dream We saw the vision We see the barns We we know it We could feel it Every single one of us can.

Even when you walk on the homestead here today you can feel it That land was meant for god's

animals It was meant for us And we are so blessed to be able to walk it to enjoy it every single

moment What's your seatbelt… Right now we're not permitted to build on it and that's okay We

will get there You know it's it's God's time It's not our time but um to anyone that has

volunteered and walked the land you know how incredibly valuable and

special it is um to be a part of us and that we did that.

Uh we started twenty twenty four also with our request for proposal…with Wichita.

And unfortunately… I think it was eight months later they told…beauties KHS and

us that they were not going to change it and they were gonna keep the police in there And the

youth raid is in an all time high What did they do They brought back the lieutenant that started

these…pretty much mass murders I don't know any other way to say it.

And they promoted him and he put the archaic methods back in place where rescues are not allowed

in where they support that standard by KHS.

And um you know it's interesting because relationship wise, JHS rescue coordinators have been

really really great to work with us So you kind of see how… sometimes when things don't make

sense and… dogs and cats are being put to sleep

and shelters are doing things that we would never do.

There are still really good people within weight systems… fighting for the animals that

are there So when you hear me, give a statement and say, you know wass is murdering, you

know all these animals and so forth That's not saying every single person there is bad or or

passing judgment on it It's saying the system doesn't work.

Animals are dying We wanna help We've offered our help We've offered it free to the city.

And we are still so is beauty still being ignored being pushed out So I kind

of you know when you hear it's very easy for people who don't follow our page to listen to one

sentence I say in alive or to look at something that's written and say Oh my god Jenna

stereotyping the whole world they're you know and good bet you know shelters with high youth

rates have good people in there too and and they can jump on that bandwagon and spew hate It's

not about spewing hate It's about… inspiring change and saying just because this is the way

it's always been doesn't mean that's that's the way it always has to be And and osoademy is such

a beautiful example of that If you guys look at the past of osoademy look at the past thirty years.

Never walked No windows no light. Every single animal in there that wasn't an adaptable

Stored in their like inventory. Every single one of them would just circle in the cages scream

I'm not making this up Anyone who has ever been there before we got there.

I'm hearing their screams because there was literally no hope.

Because they would take the animals, and they would euthanize them in front of the other

animals in a sink in front of them as they watched as they

screamed, carry them outside and bury them behind there.

That is not the present That is not the future And that's why when we talk about it no matter

how much people can say we're doing something wrong or… we should be doing better, We are

doing the very best we can and we promise to keep going in that But we always have to remember where it started.

It started with everyone telling us go away.

And we did You know they a million people can tell us to go away That's fine We're not going

away not when the animals need us And when you approach everything with love, then there kind

So No We're not perfect No We will never be perfect.

But every single day we will strive to make today better than it was yesterday to build a better tomorrow That's who we are.

That's what we do. That's why you see play groups That's why you see play guards because we are

pushing the standards and the boundaries and trying to

make it as much of an environment Now Okay.

Some people say they're like why don't you have couches?

The, um oh so out of any shelter You have them at the red barn.

They should be able to run around They should be free. Okay Yeah That's a great setup It does not work for strays.

It doesn't work for dogs that are brought in by the city where we have to

So if you're hearing that it's because of that. Um, it doesn't work when you have to legally

separate dogs that are unaltered during their strongholds So when you see an environment set up

a certain way it's because it's for a specific reason Our little gray barn it's set up for dogs

that are reactive to other dogs And when I say reactive I mean

highly reactive They do not get along with other dogs.

So that's why we have them there It's for safety You so it so everything is kind of learning and

process learn as we go how do we make things better for them So we're always thinking about…

giving them the best life possible.

So what's going on in twenty twenty five with all of our shelters?

As you guys have seen in Osoatomy the renovations are coming along They're phenomenal our

addition renovation just got officially inspected and approved so we can move stuff over in

there and use it It's got a bathroom heating cooling windows, it's gorgeous So at eleven thirty

we're gonna head over there We're going to get the cat room set up We're going to move the prior

old office into the new office and set that up And to anybody that's been there that old office

will be demolished We'll have five new kennels in our… kennel area And then we've got a

beautiful new meet and greet room in that front area because as You guys know the snow's coming

We might not be able to run around outside And dogs love the

snow Some of them don't Rosie is one who protests the cold.

But when it's negative I think it was negative seventeen last year they can't be outside more

than a minute more than two minutes Otherwise they're puzzle free So we have a little area now

in each of our shelters where they can be inside and be safe I I always say this If you're cold

your dog is probably gonna be cold too So be cognizant of that especially if you have the short

hair breed, little ones things like that and oldies too.

So those renovations they're coming along fantastic It's gonna be done soon And in the whole

shelter top to bottom is literally renovated to be sustainable safe.

And just the windows in there with the light It's a whole

different atmosphere the playards the energy there when you walk in.

Guys it's just filled with so much hope and to take it from such a tragic past to where you

drive up, And it's it simply fills your soul with joy.

How amazing is that When everybody told us weekly to do it And to um I know there's a bunch of

Facebook wars going on with people that don't like us and they want us to do more… My thoughts

on that are… all you can do is share the truth All we will ever do is share the truth

and all we are ever capable of doing is our very very best.

That's what we do every single day So to the people that want us to do more hey we wanna do more

too I promise you that to the people that want us to take every single dog in the world I

promise you we wanna take every single dog in the world and every single cat.

Our adoption and foster team, they are phenomenal, um to all the people that stepped up to

love and care for these animals to all the new volunteers that are stepping in to help with the

checks, guys if you remember in September of twenty twenty four, our entire team walked out

They walked out in solidarity they said, Jen you suck Always in forever sucks We're out Do this

… They wanted us to fail, and here's what I can tell you.

Had every good reason. And that's okay. Sometimes things have to fall apart for us to rebuild

and to say okay this is the foundation we need to build to go…in in the direction that we want

And I'm not saying anybody was right and wrong with that Everybody that left I truly do believe

had a purpose had a reason and had a very very very and still has a very very very good heart

because you wouldn't be drawn always in forever in the first place if you weren't…But

sometimes blessings come from the hardest lessons and we had to

fall apart We had to take a step back and say Hey what's working What wasn't working?

And really reassess what we need to do to build and grow for the future.

So the hardest times god gives us the hardest challenges because he knows that it's an opportunity to say hey look at this.

Make it better I trust you now Every single time something comes up and we're pushed to our

limit to to drive outside of our comfort zone, amazing

things are waiting for us just on the other side.

And that's how KCMO happened That's how the dream happened because we could've we could've sat

in the dumps After our conditional use permit happened and said f u neighbors you guys stink.

Um this is the worst thing in the whole world We have all this beautiful land No.

What happened? A dream came in our heart and a property that

is zoned for everything we want to do.

Everything everything we wanna do in the Spring Hill property, we can do at KCMO.

That is. Um, and and we are surrounded by

a community of people that need us there too.

So I know I have a point in all this Okay I jump around a lot because that's what I do It's very

very exciting There's so many things that are gonna be amazing in twenty twenty five but our us

shelter will be done probably within the next month to two months.

Probably in the next month to six weeks. Um and so but the

last touch on it is the painting because it'll be all beautiful white with the black trim.

That's weather dependent We're getting hit with really really bad weather coming up.

Maybe it will be a little bit longer. K CMO What's going on with that Well… again you

take a step back and you think okay These are our these are our dogs that are harder to place You know?

Everybody wants a dog They can take to a dog park. They can sit in a

coffee shop with gets along with everyone has people come in their home.

I can't have people come into my home. I think if somebody walked into my home they might not

walk out because I have Maddox here and he is very very very scared of new people It is fear

based And you have to know that with the dogs that come into your care.

So what happens when you have a dog that's in your care longer term Well I can tell you a lot of

rescues don't take them Why Because they're thinking, okay, dog in, dog out dog

moves out adoption fee income in That's how we

provide our revenue to take care of the other docs.

Makes sense for a rescue that charges fees if they rely on that.

No judge with. If you know us if you know how we

started who we are, we don't believe in putting a price on a soul.

You would never do that for a human being You would never do that for a member of your family

member Hey I'll give you my brother for five hundred bucks I might

accept that offer when I was like thirteen We didn't get along.

But in theory it just doesn't make sense.

No amount of money on this earth could ever take one of the animals from

me or you especially if you've known and loved one.

And that has touched your soul And we believe that to the

core of our souls That's why we're a hundred percent run off of donations.

And that's why if they're in our care forever, we have the word sanctuary in our name, and we

have that in our name for a reason That is how we started with the old ones nobody else wanted

that when we saw value in god sees value in every single

soul, and that's what we strive to do We strive to love them.

Like they love us Like god loves us We will never be able to do that perfectly, maddox.

But that's a that's a beautiful reminder every single day of who we are on Reach Drive to do.

So for KCMO… we bought this beautiful property It's incredible it's twenty seven

thousand square feet of indoor space.

Okay. Why can't we move in there Well, it's about four million dollars to renovate the

back part of it to make it the shelter of our dreams.

And once we have that we don't have that yet but when we do we have to

So it's gonna be a significant amount of investment of time the plans.

We can't move in right away Now the infrastructure alone…to make the entire building…up to

where we can be in it will cost about two hundred to three hundred thousand dollars So we've

gotta get we've gotta have the plans know what we want to get the infrastructure.

Bottom line is, what's our goal for twenty twenty five Well we have dogs in our care that need

and deserve more than our current location in case CMO.

And what we saw in twenty twenty four was the… insanely beautiful change of Teekay and Copper's

personality once they had their own tiny home So for twenty twenty

five we are putting six little duplexes up on our homestead.

We've already got the survey started on that We're gonna get the building plans in There'll be

little duplexes behind our building little white ones so it will fit perfectly with the theme there.

That they'll have their own space their own peace, and the consistency of knowing that maybe

it's not the home that we had hoped for them but it's gonna be the home that they know and they

love, and that they have their own yard that they have their own people seeing them every

single day And I can't describe I think about when you go on vacation one time and and like it's

just disruptive and you're just ready to be home And when you walk home there's

just, like that exhale.

And I saw that when TK went to his his own suite where there were no more neighbors yelling

around at him You know the stress…is gone.

And he's totally different dog now He's with us forever coppers with us forever, all of our

dogs at the little grape barn are adoptable, but it takes a very special person to say my dog

can never be with another dog or my dog might be afraid of new people, or my dog um

will kill a cat things like that And there are great people out there I know there's homes for

every single one of them We'll find them but we're gonna get these homes up so that they have

the piece that Teka and Copper know in twenty twenty five And those should be up by August of twenty twenty five.

It is about sixty five thousand dollars each to put one of those tiny homes which will house two

dogs duplex on each side, up along there.

One question might be what happens to those tiny homes once you get your shell her going Well

they can be whelping rooms for new new moms They could be kitty cat rooms for FIV, positive

cats You know we can do whatever we want with them They can be cuddle rooms They're gonna have heat They're gonna have AC They'll have windows.

um this goal I'm taking on myself, um, we've

gotta get our Saint Francis Homesteadies hospital up and running.

It's already zoned for it I know there's gonna be a ton of work to make that happen licensing.

Um we have to find a vet too uh registration you know, but it starts with okay Here's the

dream It starts with the dream And then you put it out there So what are we gonna do We're gonna

have bi li biweekly meetings with our key med people to where we identify every single piece of

equipment that we need that we go through the licensing requirements that we go through the

zoning we're already zoned for it already got that cleared, Um and then it starts from there So

that initiative will kick off next week Super excited for that and it's about three hundred

thousand dollars to purchase all the necessity equipment.

Now think about that Does that sound like a lot And it's scary Absolutely.

Guys we raised one point one million last year because everyone came

together and believed…it was worth it.

That's what things happen when people come together with the same mission the same

heart, and then we can see and we have changed the future.

We have a picture for like six thousand animals in six and a half years and inspired so many

prayers she came from a very rural shelter.

And her undercarriage is covered with mammary tumors.

There was a note on there We, you know unfortunately when they come directly from a shelter we

sometimes don't always um, get our hands on in that sense.

And…So we saw it this morning She's leaking She's using our medical expenses are just insane

There have been implications… or or innuendo I don't even know what the word in something that

people say We only pull the medical dogs because they bring in donations… I gotta laugh

at at some of the comments that happened from this because we pull the medical.

Here's why we pulled medical because nobody else does.

Um we pull the ones that nobody else wants because we have the faith and the courage to believe

that everybody will believe that somehow some way we will find a way to bring the donations to

save them One of the reasons I so passionately want to get Saint Francis going is because I do

wanna open it up to the community because we had a cat named wasabi who actually passed away.

Um, she just two years old beautiful…didn't make any sense had a loving foster all of a

sudden she took a turn We brought in a blue pearl at like four o'clock So of course the

internalist ultrasound doctor is not there So boom thousand dollars to bring the doctor in on a Saturday night.

Boom Four hundred to bring the emergency vet tech who can only do the ultrasound sound Saturday

night Four thousand dollars later, you know we get

a we get a bill just for twenty four hours.

Guys and we lost her. I don't know a single person that has just four thousand dollars that

they're like oh we're just here's my cat One day let me try it No Most people… let them go.

And these are loving pet owners and just deserve a chance And I'm talking emergency care.

Really I'm talking emergency care. And that's there's such a difference Now this is not me

saying vets should do it for free This is not me saying shame on you vets you charged too much

No The vet should be paid a a ton of money They do phenomenal things.

Yeah I don't know anybody that I mean I personally don't wanna go to vet school I I don't wanna

I don't like to kinda handle the cutting up and all that kind of things.

Um I can handle holding them as they pass but I had the learning part the science of that That's

not me They deserve they deserve the world and I truly believe.

We opened up a hospital just like Saint Judith for kids, and we get the best veterinarians to

come there and we pay them well And we open it up to communities so that we keep…loving loving

pet owners…with their with their with their family members and we help them And it's not about

here You show me you don't make enough money then we will help you It's not about shaming people

or saying you know you only get help if you know I determine that you financially need it No

, um you know that we are able to keep up financially And that just you know is really due to

our consistent supporters and and the vets who will, uh work with us and extend a rescue discount.

So December was uh a big month at the vet coming in at a little over fifty thousand dollars.

Um November was as well So they were pretty much parallel those two months.

Um, and I was looking back at the year and just we've we've paid

a total of four hundred and ninety eight individual vet bills.

So and that doesn't even address the number of animals because of each each bill may contain you

know five to ten animals in it So, yeah so it's been a big year vet total vet expenses are

So, you know and then just along with

those uh the medical issues we've got the the prescription food.

doing drivers We have four hundred plus people registered as drivers with us And…and uh we've

been very blessed We've done almost thirty five hundred…Freedom Rights over the last five

years and we've never failed to fill a drive.

So we always have volunteers stepping up to do these drives. And we've really been helping a

lot of other other rescues who may not have that capability for

transport, uh over the past especially over the past year and a half two years.

And uh literally have been hundreds…transports, uh for other rescues to make sure that

dogs are being saved out of shelters and and not being restricted…by uh capability they have.

So It it really is It's been uh we have a wonderful team of volunteers who, uh to give you a

feel yesterday I had a need… to get a dog out of a shelter.

I made three phone calls, and we had the drive done… The drivers who immediately dropped what

they were doing stepped up and made the drive happen.

The night before we had to get a we wanted to get a dog out of Guyman Oklahoma which is south of

Liberal Kansas You know where that's at from far south southwest Kansas.

Is about a, uh seven hour drive, um, get the dog here.

And literally, I made about…twelve phone calls.

Got seven drivers lined up. And, um, it was we were able to pull this dog dog get the

dog here get it into a loving foster home out of the shelter before the before this weather hit.

So this incredible we've literally done I'd have to go back and count.

We were probably at about three or four hundred dogs in the past year and we transported for

other rescues…uh just to help get dog saved So I just wanted to say thank you to my the

amazing team of drivers who volunteer their time.

Use of their vehicle the cost of fuel all those things that are associated, the team steps up

and I I can couldn't be more proud of the uh the people that do it… Yeah It's um

As you think about it it's not just that route It's also the driver has to get to wherever the

mentioned that The other thing we try to do when we started this process was always in forever

We tried to change the standard… and and change the the experience with the dog.

I mean a lot of lot of rescues when they were transporting they would they would these dogs in

crates were too small Candals were too small Pilum in a van thirty you know dogs into a van

stacked you know three or four high uh in the dark, scared to death.

We put soft dog beds We place off music We talk to them you

know we do uh one to two to three dogs in a car, maximum.

So it's it's a very different experience So literally when the dog comes out of that shelter

instead of going into a stressful not knowing what's happened to them in a in a stacked up van.

We have them on a soft dog bed getting petted and mugged for this from the modem day uh get out

, they never leave our care The way that we view this is when we put a dog in foster home or or

in cats too when we we put an animal in a foster home or a doctor home That's why we have the

say this I I look in as adoption as a transfer of trust We are trusting you with a soul that we
